It was inevitable that some form of punishment was coming for Peter Sagan after the sprint yesterday, but almost everyone has agreed that the disqualification was taking it too far. This morning, Sagan spoke to the media with a mood of reserved acceptance. While not admitting to any wrong doing, he understands that the decision is out of his control. Sagan chose not to lash out at the race organization, and wished a speedy recovery to Mark Cavendish.

It's unfortunate that the Tour de France has lost two of the biggest personalities in the sport so early in the race. Moving forward, it remains to be seen what type of comeback Cavendish can make from his fractured shoulder. The battle for the green jersey is now wide open. It has become near impossible to beat Sagan in the points competition over the past couple years. With his removal, the stage is set to see which sprinter will take full advantage of this opportunity.
